July’s Girl: Madeline von Froomer
Occupation: Artist
How did you get where you are?
Mostly trial and error.
Where do you find inspiration?
All of cultural and artistic history and the natural world and my own body.  I think I mostly imagine what I want to exist in the world that doesn’t already  and go from there.
What are you wearing in the photo?
Proenza Schouler cotton voile button down, vintage denim cutoffs (they used to be a pair of Diesel jeans I bought at 19 when I thought that was cool), gold Cape clogs.  I’m obsessed with my gold Swedish clogs right now.  And a blue Reece Hudson duffle bag.
Who are your designers to watch right now?
I think Phoebe Philo and Sarah Burton are creative geniuses.  I was searching vaporware for awhile but now I’m over it.  Now I’m looking Yoruba masquerades for ancestor worship.  They are so beautiful.
Magazines or website?
Websites unless I’m on an airplane.
What are you currently reading?
I’m researching a writing project now, so I’m reading mostly female authors for that: Rachel Kushner’s Flamethrowers, Chris Kraus’s Aliens and Anorexia, Camille Paglia’s Sexual Personae.
What / who do you lust for?
Fame, wealth, connection, subtle BDSM, really nice bathtubs.
What makes the perfect bag?
The perfect bag has to be a beautiful object, without being tacky or overtly recognizable.  And it has to be exceptionally functional: easy to open and close, inside pockets, able to be work in different ways on the body, and relatively safe to leave open all of the time.  Why do I hate zipping bags?

May’s Girl: Laurie Trott
Occupation: Fashion Director, Who What Wear
As the Fashion Director of Who What Wear, what do you do each day?
It’s my job to spot fashion trends within street style, red carpet and runway. I’m constantly looking with my team to find new and exciting ways for our readers to shop, dress and get inspired by fashion.
How do you find inspiration?
It’s everywhere, if you’re looking at it through the right lens. Sometimes it’s the character in a movie or a book. Right now, I’m really inspired by what’s happening on the street and how people are putting their looks together. I’m also always looking through old photo books and fashion editorials. It’s fascinating to see how things come full circle from ten, twenty years ago.
What are you wearing in the photo?
Stella McCartney blazer, Current Elliott stiletto jeans, Isabel Marant henley, Aurelie Biderman cuff, Jennifer Fisher ring on a chain as a pendant and Balenciaga shoes.
Who are your favorite designers right now?
Love Sacai, Dries Van Noten, Louise Goldin, this new collection Kule, and Reece Hudson, obviously!
What is your favorite website and where do you look for news?
Who What Wear, style.com and LeFashion for fashion and style. For news, I skim NYTimes.com, DailyBeast, WSJ, and HollywoodReporter.com everyday.
What are you currently reading?
I’m a such a book juggler, and being able to download them really lends to this.  Over the past month I’ve been flip-flopping between the Anjelica Huston biography, Little Failure by Gary Shteyngart and The Flamethrowers. I’m also a very devoted New Yorker and New York Magazine reader!
What are you lusting for?
One of those Hawaiian print evening dresses from Marc Jacobs S/S ‘14, a grey minidress from Louise Goldin and one of the gold foil ruffle pieces from Dries.  And a replacement on my Adidas Rod Laver sneakers, which I can’t find anywhere!
